Female Education

SOS FED believes that education is a primary tool for recovering from sexual violence and preventing future violence. Thus, community members and residents of our reception centers benefit from educational sessions, advising women and girls on health, human/women’s rights, management of finances, and basic literacy. These sessions occur weekly at each center, and are open to all interested women registered with SOS FED.

Our goal is to help women become better advocates for themselves and other victims of sexual violence, as well assist them to develop skills necessary to better manage their homes and families.

Additionally, we are currently beginning an educational initiative entitled “Best Practices” in which center residents and community members discuss options for increasing their personal security. As South Kivu continues to suffer from generalized insecurity, SOS FED believes it necessary for women to agree on core methods of protecting their security. This could include group activities such as cultivation, collecting water, and finding sources of fuel which do not involve hazardous trips in to the forest.
