History
The war in DRC began in 1996. SOS Femmes En Danger (SOS FED) was formed in 2004 by Marceline Kongolo-Bicé (right), then 18 years old. Marceline witnessed acts of violence and cruelty while fleeing from her home in Maniema province, and began organizing interventions for women soon after she arrived in Fizi Territory, South Kivu. She has developed a deep empathy for women who have been raped and abused by warring groups, as a result of her own experience.
SOS FED operates three reception centers for survivors of sexual violence in Fizi Territory in the villages of Mboko, Kikonde, and Kazimia. The centers provide peer counseling, therapy sessions with experienced center managers, and micro-credit programs. SOS FED also seeks to help women in the Fizi Territory to reduce their vulnerability to rape. Finally, SOS FED works to monitor violations in Eastern DRC and report them to international audiences, partners, and local parties.
SOS FED is building up its international constituency. Please contact us. We need your support
